Do you stack?

Updated: Apr 18

What kind of ring wearer are you?

  • Are you a big chunky stone kind or person?

  • A glizty diamondy kind of person?

  • A multicoloured, multifaceted, multigemmed kind of person?

OR...

  • Are you a stacker?

Stacking rings have become more and more popular over recent years as the variety of ring style is so ever changing and able to be total personalised for the wearer. You can build your look - smash it out of the park with some glamourous evening wear or go simple with a day-to-day relaxed set.

For me, I love the options of being able to wear a bigger stone or cubic zirconia or mix up the metals. I am a fan of mixed metals; gold and silver give such an elegant and glossy look.

As part of my Diploma in Silver I had to design a set of four stackers: one 9ct gold hammered band, one 9ct gold plain band and two silver bands (one with a gold nugget and one with a tube set cz in a 9ct gold tube). I loved making them and I love wearing them and I love how much interest they have got from other people.

So much interest that I have decided to go ahead and get ready to sell some! First things first though... when selling something that incorporates over 1g of gold it must be hallmarked. Hallmarking involves the work of an assay office who will check the quality of the metal and how much metal there is and then stamp the metal with the appropriate hallmark.

I have chosen to go with the leopard hallmark from the London Assay Office - my work will be stamped with the leopard, the mark to prove the quality of the metal and my own RCL stamp. This is exciting! Really exciting!

So... that's the easy bit... the hard bit is the pricing. I'm not going to lie... the price of gold is super high and jewellers are having to revaluate their prices monthly. Sending off to the Assay Office isn't free either - but it's worth it.

As a jeweller who is starting out I was stunned at the price of metal but... that's what makes gold so special... the look, the feel and the value. When you have gold you have an investment. So, I am going to step into the world of gold jewellery; 9ct then 14 and one day 18ct! Lovely!

My stacking rings can be ordered as a set or individually.
